Pennsylvania man dies in Monroe crash
MONROE TOWNSHIP — A Pennsylvania man died in a one-vehicle traffic accident early Monday morning on Route 84 in Monroe Township.
The victim was identified as 68-year-old Richard Stepchauck, said James Baehr, an investigator with the Ashtabula County coroner’s office. Stephchauck’s place of residence was not immediately known, he said.
The accident occurred at 6 a.m., on Route 84 near State Road, according to reports. It’s believed Stepchauck was westbound when his vehicle exited the north side of the highway, according to reports from the scene.
The vehicle traveled a considerable distance off the road before coming to a stop
. Stepchauck may have taken ill behind the wheel, Baehr said. An autopsy will be conducted, he said.
“We will see if a medical event (caused the accident),” he said.
Personnel from the Monroe Township Fire Department were dispatched to the scene. Fire Chief Justin Tuttle did not immediately return a call Monday seeking information.
No information was available Monday from the Ohio State Highway Patrol, which is investigating the accident.
