ASHTABULA TOWNSHIP — Shortly before 8 a.m. Feb. 15, township park officials expect to open the door to a crowd standing outside their office.
The long line of people will be waiting anxiously to book their family reunions, birthday parties, church picnics and graduation open houses at one of the Lake Shore Park pavilions.
Reservations will be accepted for dates from Memorial Day to Labor Day weekend.
“This year, the main pavilion will be done and ready,” said Lori Zebrasky, fiscal officer. “Construction will be complete.”
Telephone reservations will be taken, starting at 1 p.m., she said.
The Wilpula/ Overlook, the Rock Garden and the Tourist Site pavilions cost $15 per day to rent Monday through Thursday and $45 to rent Friday through Sunday, and holidays. All pavilions come with water and electricity and a charcoal grill.
The west side of the long Main pavilion is rented out for $5 a row. The east end is first come, first serve.
Zebrasky said a lot of people missed the swings during last year’s construction.
“The swings are going up,” she said.
The most popular pavilion is the Tourist pavilion, which offers privacy on its very own hill.
“Many people hold their family reunion at Lake Shore Park year after year,” she said.
Park officials also are planning the annual Easter Egg Hunt for 1 p.m. April 3 and the Rib Burn-off for Sept. 17-19.
Applications are being taken until 4 p.m. Feb. 26 for concession-stand operations.
Season boat-ramp passes are available for advance sale March 1 through April 2 for $60, but after April 2, the price jumps to $80.
The park also will need lifeguards at the beach this summer. Stop in the park office at 1700 E. First St. to fill out an application.
