Fire does heavy damage to Roaming Shores home
ROAMING SHORES — Firefighters from four area departments battled a blaze at 45 Rome Rock Boulevard early Saturday morning, said Rome Township Fire Chief Ed Koziol.
Koziol said his department arrived on the scene to find a fully involved structure fire. He said the owner of the structure is Kathleen Holmes and her daughter Kyndra Holmes was home at the time of the fire.
“She (Kyndra) was home and smoke alarms went off and she found a fire in the opposite end of the house (from) where she was and she called 911,” Koziol said. He said she also notified the neighbors of the fire.
The fire was called in around 12:10 a.m. as a fully involved structure fire. He said Kyndra Holmes was the only one home at the time of the fire and was outside the house when firefighters arrived.
Koziol said the home received extensive heat and smoke damage but did not have any monetary damage estimates yet. He said the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
“I met with the fire marshall today and we will be meeting again Monday,” he said.
Koziol said Rome firefighters received mutual aid help from Morgan, Orwell and Hartsgrove fire departments. “We had about 21 firefighters there with the four departments,” he said.
Koziol said the siding of a neighboring home was also damaged by the fire. He said firefighters were on the scene for about four hours.
Rome firefighters were also busy Friday afternoon as they responded to a chimney fire at 884 Longshadow Drive in Roaming Shores around 2:57 p.m., Koziol said. He said there was minimal damage, but there was a little smoke in the house.
