All four villages go with Ashtabula’s dispatching service

JEFFERSON — Jefferson Village Council voted to go with Ashtabula City when it comes to police dispatching services at its Monday night meeting.

That makes four communities — Jefferson, Andover, Orwell and Roaming Shores — officially agreeing to contract with Ashtabula for dispatching services.

Jefferson, Andover and Orwell will pay $30,000, and Roaming Shores will pay $9,000 from Jan. 1 to Dec. 31, 2013, according to the contract.

All four of the village have been receiving dispatching services from Middlefield.

Ashtabula City Manager Jim Timonere said he sees the villages coming to Ashtabula as a vote of confidence in the city.

Police Chief Robert Stell looks to bring back a laid off dispatcher and putting a patrolman back on the road.

Right now, he’s got an officer in the dispatch center and he would rather have that officer on the road, he said.
