Company installing 200-foot water tower in Jefferson

JEFFERSON — Jefferson Village residents soon will be seeing a new 20-story-tall landmark.

Aqua Ohio, a privately owned water company with a regional office located in Mentor, is building a water tower on the back corner of the midget football field, on East Cedar Street in Jefferson.

“For the last six to seven years, Aqua Ohio has been making improvements here in Jefferson, and this elevated water reservoir has been in the planning stages for about five years,” said Village Administrator Terry Finger.

The water tower will cost Aqua Ohio about $1.5 million and will provide the village, as well as Jefferson Township, with 500,000 gallons of reserve water.

“This water will provide Jefferson with backup water for the fire department and backup water for residents, when needed,” Finger said. “This is just a smart thing for Aqua Ohio to do. You won’t have customers without a steady flow of water,” he said.

“This is a major project that will probably be going on all summer,” Finger said.
