GENEVA — Forget the wine; bring out the beer and chocolate.
Chocolate lovers flocked to the annual Geneva Chocolate Fest on Tuesday evening for hundreds of sweet samples. Business owners took the opportunity to show off their wares, while offering bits of chocolate delight.
Deanna Berlinski was no exception. Berlinski, of the Light Touch Florist, said she was excited to be a part of Chocolate Fest.
“I love meeting people, and you know, we are trying to get our name out there for the proms and dances. Besides, how can you say no to chocolate?” she asked.
Berlinski lost count of how many people sampled chocolate from her flowing fountain of goodness, but she said everyone was smiling.
“Everyone is in a good mood. Winter is ending; spring is on the way. Chocolate Fest is just what people need to pick themselves up after a long cold winter,” she said.
Chocolate maker Seader Weir of Seader D’s Chocolates offered chocolate-covered grapes.
“Hey, grapes are a Geneva thing,” she said.
The treat of the day again was provided by the Ashtabula County Medical Center, which distributed 300 double-fudge cupcakes made with Irish Guinness stout-style beer in the cake and Bailey’s Irish Cream butter cream frosting.
“We ran totally out of cupcakes in less than an hour and a half,” ACMC representative Elaine Christen said. “It was amazing.”
Event organizer and Geneva Rotary president Terri Vincent said she was happy with the large turnout for the event, which raised money for local charities.
“The chocolate samples are out of this world,” she said. “Our vendors do such a great job providing the chocolate. They really go above and beyond with their samples, and they have a lot of fun with it.”
Ashtabula resident Susan Gear had her takeout box full of goodies ready to go home.
“I really, really like chocolate,” Gear said. “I come to Chocolate Fest every year.”
Gear said her favorite treat is the chocolate-covered strawberries.
“I love that you can dip them in the fountain by yourself and coat them in plenty of chocolate,” she said.
