ORWELL — Five area fire departments responded to a structure fire at 260 E. Main St., Monday night.

Orwell firefighters received the call of a garage fire that had spread to the upstairs of a two-story home at 8:30 p.m., said Orwell Fire Chief Joe Albergo.

When firefighters arrived, they found the upstairs and the garage were fully involved, Albergo said.

Township fire departments from Rome, Windsor, Bloomfield and Bristolville (Trumbull County) responded to assist Orwell in fighting the blaze.

“There were two occupants home at the time of the fire and they got out safely; there were no injuries to the occupants or firefighters,” he said. “The two occupants owned the home.”

The cause of the fire is undetermined and the state fire marshal is investigating it.

The fire crews remained on the scene for a total of about four hours, but had the structure under control within two hours, Albergo said.

“The structure is still standing, parts of it are very bad, but we do not know if it will be declared a total loss or not,” he said.
