WILLIAMSFIELD TOWNSHIP — Law enforcement officers from two states had their hands full Sunday afternoon as they attempted to apprehend a domestic violence suspect who led them on a high speed chase, said Sgt. Jim Kemmerle of the Ashtabula County Sheriff’s Department.
Terry Tobin, 33, of Niles, allegedly threatened his ex-wife, 32, Sunday at 1:38 p.m. in Shenango Township, Pa. He also allegedly pushed and shoved the victim and then fled when Pennsylvania State Police arrived on the scene, according to a press release from the Pennsylvania State Police.
“It started out as a domestic violence case in Pennsylvania,” Kemmerle said. “They (Pennsylvania State Police) were involved in a high speed pursuit with the suspect,” he said.
Kemmerle said the suspect drove across the state line into Williamsfield Township near Pymatuning State Park and officers were able to disable his vehicle using a pit maneuver on Pymatuning Lake Road.
He said the suspect then fled on foot and Ohio law enforcement reinforcements were called in to help search for the suspect.
Kemmerle said the sheriff’s department got the call at 2:09 p.m. and worked with law enforcement personnel from the Pennsylvania State Police, Andover Police Department, Pymatuning State Park and the Ohio Highway Patrol. He said an airplane from the Ohio Highway Patrol and a helicopter from the Pennsylvania State police were also involved.
He said there were three canine teams involved in the search.
Kemmerle said the suspect was tracked but it is believed he fled back into Pennsylvania and was still at large late Sunday night.
