JEFFERSON — An unused hot tub seized in a narcotics investigation has been sent to the auction block by the Ashtabula County commissioners.
The tub, which can accommodate up to eight persons, has a starting bid of $1,500.
Two vehicles forfeited as a result of the same investigation are also headed to auction at www.ashtabulacountyohioauctions.com. Proceeds from the 1999 Chevrolet box truck and 1999 Jeep Cherokee will be deposited in the Ashtabula County Sheriff Law Enforcement Trust Fund, with a percentage of the money distributed to the TAG Law Enforcement Trust Fund per an agreement with the TAG Task Force.
Rounding out the selection of items sent to the auction site last week are two guitars.
In other action taken Thursday, Ashtabula County commissioners voted to seek bids for hot mix asphalt for three county road projects.
The resurfacing work is scheduled for State Road (.36 miles), Clay Street (2.42 miles) and Old Harpersfield Road (.64 miles). The County Highway Department will perform the work. Bid opening is June 24, and the materials are expected to cost nearly $250,000.
In other action, commissioners voted to purchase reinforced concrete pipe from Lindsay Concrete Products of Canal Fulton and Hydro Conduit Corp. (Rinker Materials) of Diamond. Lindsay had a low bid of $29,759 for the first lot of materials; Rinker had the low bid of $45,260 for the second lot.
Commissioners authorized the filing of a grant application to the Ohio Department of Youth Services for the fiscal year 2009 Youth Services Grant for the Juvenile Court. The grant’s base amount is $169,439.
Lease agreements with the Ohio Department of Public Safety were approved.
The first agreement covers space at 77 N. Chestnut St. (Grainger Building), Jefferson, for the license bureau (Highway Patrol). The annual rent amount remains $13,070.08 per year.
The second agreement is for space at 4 W. Walnut St., Jefferson, and is used by the Bureau of Motor Vehicles. The lease term was extended through June 30, 2011. The rate will remain at $11.59 per square foot, or $15,576.96 annually.
