Neighbor helps save home in Conneaut

CONNEAUT — Ronald Allen may have saved his neighbor’s home Sunday afternoon when he took a garden hose to help put out a porch fire at 574 Dorman Road.

“A neighbor came over and hit the fire with a garden hose and he kept it from spreading into the house,” said Firefighter Dave Masirovits.

Masirovits said the home that caught fire is owned by Arthur Dale Jr. and the fire damage was kept to the porch and outside the home.

He said the fire call came in at 1:07 p.m. “We had a small fire on the back porch,” Masirovits said. He said the damage was estimated to be between $6,000 and $8,000 and included damage to the house’s siding.

Masirovits said 11firefighters responded to the call. He said some were on the scene for more than an hour helping to ventilate the house of a slight haze of smoke.

The cause of the fire appears to be electrical in nature, Masirovits said.
