ANDOVER — The search is drawing to a close for a new superintendent for Pymatuning Valley Local Schools.
The deadline to apply is Thursday.
The school board is searching for John Rose’s successor through the Ashtabula County Educational Service Center. All of the hiring details can be found on ESC’s Web site www.acesc.k12.oh. us.
Rose presented the Pymatuning Valley Local Schools Board of Education his resignation late last month, after four years of service with the district. His contract will end July 31.
“I actually retired once already from Mentor schools,” Rose said. Rose also is former superintendent of Ashtabula Area City Schools. “I really like it here, and I would like to continue to do something, but not full time.”
Rose, who has worked 37 years in education, has spent 32 of those years in administration and six as a superintendent.
“I have been very fortunate to work with great people,” he said.
He began his career in education with the idea of coach sports, but when he entered the classroom, he found that teaching became much more interesting to him. Rose then obtained his master’s degree in administration and followed that degree by serving in a variety of administrative positions and obtaining his doctoral degree.
“My time at PV has been very gratifying: just watching the community come together and support their schools. And I have been very impressed with the level of teamwork I have experienced here among the teachers and staff,” Rose said.
PV Board of Education President Sandi Smith was unavailable for comment Friday.
