Rainy, windy weather blew down power lines and a tree or two Monday, giving some Ashtabula County residents a rough start to their work week.
The National Weather Service placed the county under a wind advisory early Monday, with easterly winds around 28 mph and gusts of 45 mph, according to its Web site.
The windy weather caused power outages throughout the area, with the largest outage occurring in Conneaut, said Mark Jones, area manager for the Illuminating Co.
“The outage happened on Jackson Street,” he said, noting 1,063 Illuminating Co. customers lost power for 90 minutes.
At about 10 a.m., the wind blew down power lines on West 25th Street in the City of Ashtabula, according to dispatcher reports.
The wind caused additional sporadic outages throughout the day in Ashtabula and Kingsville Township, he said.
On Windsor Road in Orwell Township, a pine tree uprooted and took down some power lines, but by 3 p.m., work crews restored power in most areas and the wind had died down, according to Jones and weather reports.
The rain is likely to continue today with a high of 47 degrees, with more rain and even snow tonight and a low of 36 degrees, according to the National Weather Service in Cleveland.
