CONNEAUT — Three city safety employees credited with saving the life of a 5-year-old girl in a house fire earlier this month were saluted at Monday’s Conneaut City Council meeting.
Council unanimously approved a resolution honoring Patrolman Timothy Rose, firefighter David Masirovits and Angela Emery, an emergency medical technician, for the roles they played in rescuing and reviving Annagruen Trentham when her home at 309 Orange St. caught fire early on the morning of April 1.
“A job well done,” said Council President James Jones. “You went above and beyond.”
The trio, presented by Police Chief- Safety Director Jon Arcaro, also received a standing ovation from the audience and a handshake from City Manager Robert Schaumleffel Jr. The three teamed to save the life of the little girl, who had collapsed in a bedroom from smoke and fumes, according to reports.
Rose, the first on the scene, encountered the child’s frantic mother outside the house, standing near an open window. Rose hoisted himself up to the window and spotted the girl on the floor a short distance away. Rose was able to grab the child and pull her through the window.
Masirovits, a Fire Station 1 firefighter, revived the child at the scene, while Emery provided continuing care inside an ambulance en route to UH-Conneaut Medical Center. The girl was flown to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland, and was released a short time later.
No other injuries were reported. Cause of the fire was undetermined. Space heaters warmed the small frame home, firefighters said.
