Jefferson Area Local BOE to build new stadium

JEFFERSON — There is a new Falcon Pride Stadium on the horizon.

Plans and bid packages were discussed Tuesday evening at the regular Jefferson Area Local Board of Education meeting at Jefferson High School.

“We are going to advertise two bid packages,” said Ed Williams, treasurer for the board.

The first bid package includes the demolition of the existing press box and the removal of the existing bleachers and the concrete slabs they rest on. This package also includes the construction of new concrete pads for the new stadium bleachers, Williams said.

“It would be great if a local company would bid for the first package,” he said.

The second bid package includes the construction of new aluminum stadium bleachers. Specifications call for accommodating 1,450 people on the home side of the football field; bleachers on the visitor, or east, side of the football field would seat 1,000 people; and bleachers for the Jefferson High School band at the north end zone would accommodate 180 people, he said.

Falcon Pride Stadium is located south of the current Jefferson High School, on South Poplar Street.

“The home-side (of the) stadium will receive a new 54-foot long press box facility that will sit at the top of the bleachers,” Williams said.

The district’s architect and engineering, the Buehrer Group of Maumee, presented the stadium plans at the meeting.

“This is really exciting, and this is only phase one. In the future, we would like to add a track around the field, new lighting and possibly an artificial playing surface for all-weather use,” Williams said.
