ORWELL — The Conversation Station will once again host a 36-hour telethon to raise money for its on-going and expanding programing.
This year’s telethon will be held Oct. 17 and Oct. 18 with a special event on Oct. 16.
“Our goal is to raise $36,000 in 36 hours,” said Patty Hosler, telethon coordinator.
The telethon will feature a Chinese auction, bowl-a-thon, and walk-a-thon with Capt. Jack Sparrow. There will also be a Guitar Hero contest at the New Year’s Eve party, a pop-top weigh-in for pop can tabs collected and country band Hillbilly Denial will perform, Hosler said.
Between 6 and 9 p.m. Oct. 16, adults can get a sneak peak at the Chinese auction. There will also be a wine and cheese sampling. Tickets for the auction can be purchased for $5 for 20 tickets. The drawing will be held Oct. 18 at 6 p.m. and the winner does not need to be present, she said.
Homemade soups and breads will be served as well as a buffet breakfast. Jungle Terry will be there with his animals as well as Mark the Magician, she said.
This is the third year for the event which helps support everyday operations. The Conversation Station is a youth facility, within walking distance from Grand Valley schools, that provides a safe place for kids to “hang-out” after school.
Once the $36,000 is reached, it will fund the Conversation Station for an entire year. The facility is a self-funded, non-profit organization that receives no government or local funding to sustain daily operation.
The telethon will begin at 9 a.m. Oct. 17 and end at 9 p.m. Oct. 18. There will be a $2 entry fee for children in grades kindergarten through 12. The Conversation Station is located at 18 E. Main St.
