Man arrested after I-90 pursuit

CONNEAUT — A Geneva man suspected of assaulting a female passenger in a moving vehicle was arrested Tuesday night after leading police on a high-speed chase along Interstate 90, authorities said.

Police ultimately arrested Jason Baker, age and address not immediately available, after the pursuit ended west of Route 193, said Conneaut Sgt. Curt Distel.

The victim was taken to Ashtabula County Medical Center for evaluation, Distel said.

An investigation is still under way, but police said the incident began around 7 p.m., when an Ohio State Highway Patrol dispatcher contacted Conneaut police to report having received a call from a woman who said she had been assaulted in a vehicle traveling west on I-90.

Conneaut officers intercepted the vehicle on the freeway near Route 7, but the driver refused to pull over. Instead, the driver accelerated, Distel said. Police followed, and the pursuit came to an end when the chase vehicle went off the road a short distance west of Route 193 in Kingsville Township.

No officers or other motorists were injured, Distel said.

“The guys did a really good job,” he said.

Medical personnel from Conneaut were dispatched to the scene, along with Ashtabula County sheriff’s deputies.
