The Northern Ohio Region of the American Red Cross has declared a blood emergency.
Because of low blood levels, the Red Cross is struggling to meet the needs of local hospitals. The region should maintain a minimum three-day supply of the eight blood types.
Community members are encouraged to participate in local blood drives.
Blood donors must be at least 17 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds, be in general good health and present a valid state-issued identification or Red Cross donor card.
Bloodmobiles are scheduled in Ashtabula and Lake counties as follows:
n Friday: noon to 4 p.m. at Country Club Retirement Center, 925 E. 26th St., Ashtabula; and 1 to 5 p.m. at Cardinal Woods, 6831 E. Chapel Road, Madison;
n Monday: 1 to 7 p.m. at Cornerstone Friends Church, 2300 Hubbard Road, Madison;
n Tuesday: 3 to 8 p.m. at Monroe Volunteer Fire Department, 4095 Route 7; and
n July 31: 1 to 7 p.m. at Northwest Ambulance District, 1480 S. Broadway, Geneva; and 1 to 6 p.m. at South Central Ambulance District, 3100 Route 6, Rome Township.
