Mass. suspect nabbed in Conneaut

CONNEAUT — A local man due in local court today may be sent to Massachusetts, where he reportedly faces more serious charges, officials said Monday.

Daniel Bramwell, 43, 13 Burrington Heights, is scheduled to have a preliminary hearing at 1 p.m. today in Conneaut Municipal Court on charges filed after his arrest early Friday morning on Harbor Street, a court spokeswoman said. However, there’s a chance Bramwell could be en route to Massachusetts by then, officials said.

Bramwell has been charged by local authorities with possession of drugs and carrying a concealed weapon, both felonies, a court spokeswoman said. However, the charges Bramwell faces in Massachusetts may trump the local offenses, and authorities there apparently want him back, according to reports.

The incident began around 12:30 a.m. Friday, when a Harbor Street resident called police to report a man sleeping in a minivan. Police arrived and tried waking the man, later identified as Bramwell. When Bramwell stirred, officers noticed a semiautomatic pistol under his leg, police said.

Officers ordered Bramwell to put his hands on the vehicle door, but he began to reach for the gun, police said. Officers repeated their order, and Bramwell complied, officers said.

Bramwell was removed from the vehicle and handcuffed, and the pistol, which was loaded, was confiscated. Bramwell told officers he was heading to Massachusetts when he became tired and wanted to sleep.

Police learned Bramwell had active warrants from Massachusetts and a temporary protection order that forbids him from possessing a firearm. Officers also located a cigarette box containing several prescription medications.
