CONNEAUT — A 10-year-old girl standing on a Harbor Street sidewalk was struck by an ATV Sunday afternoon, Police Sgt. Curt Distel said.

The driver, Joshua Harris, 26, of Conneaut, was northbound on the sidewalk on his small-engine 4-wheeler when he struck the girl, Distel said.

“(Harris) said he looked down to see what was wrong with the ATV when he struck the girl. He said he didn’t see her,” Distel said.

The incident is still under investigation, Distel said, and Harris’ speed is unknown.

The child was taken by ambulance to UH-Conneaut Medical Center for treatment of unknown injuries, Distel said.

Harris was cited at the scene of the crash for reckless operation and driving on the sidewalk, though he may face additional charges as the investigation continues, Distel said.

“The reports will be forwarded to the law director for review and for consideration of more charges,” he said.

Harris was not injured and did not appear to be intoxicated, Distel said.
