NORTH KINGSVILLE — With the aid of laptop computers, North Kingsville police will be able to access crime information from their cruisers, village council agreed.
Council, at Wednesday’s regular meeting, authorized the department to obtain two portable computers that be interchanged among police cars. The devices will be tested on a “trial basis,” said Councilman Mark Kauppila.
North Kingsville will pay $4,000 for the devices and accessories that will allow the computers to be switched between cruisers. Other law enforcement agencies in the county use laptops to allow officers instant access to a wide range of information and crime data.
In other business, Mayor Terry McConnell announced the village received a $2,200 check from the Ohio Bureau of Worker’s Compensation for North Kingsville’s good attendance at seminars and meetings. “That’s a bit of good news,” he said.
Elsewhere, the village has completed its clean-up of tree limbs knocked to the ground by an ice storm in early March, officials said. North Kingsville hopes to be reimbursed $21,000 of its clean-up expense by the state Emergency Management Agency.
Village officials are also hopeful it will receive $6,500 from the federal EMA for expenses incurred during a major snowstorm a few days after the ice storm.
Also, council:
n Learned the publicly owned Village Green Golf Course may need a special greens mower to replace a broken machine. Cost may approach $22,000, said Kauppila, chairman of council’s golf course committee
n Agreed to transfer a $25,000 surplus from the golf course fund to the village’s general fund for general expenses
n Agreed to purchase a new ambulance for the village’s rescue service. Cost of the vehicle will be $140,652 with trade-in of two older vehicles.
