ASHTABULA TOWNSHIP - - Dan "Hoss" Nugent isn't shy about his love for animals.
Nugent, a local radio personality with WKKY, is recognized locally by his voice.
The Nugents are holding a "Day of Love" Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Ashtabula Mall to benefit the Ashtabula County Animal Protective League.
"People who know me and my wife, Robin, know how much we love animals," Dan Nugent said.
The event will include a radio remote from the mall from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., a pet picture contest and the crowning of a dog and cat Valentine king and queen.
"The purpose of the Day of Love for the APL is to focus a day on adoptions and donations," Dan Nugent said.
Pictures of cats and dogs available for adoption will be posted on a bulletin board.
Donations for the shelter, including dog and cat food, cash or check, office supplies, dog and cat toys, cleaning supplies, blankets and other goods, will be accepted at the event.
"We will also have a piggy bank with us to collect donations from kids," Nugent said.
The pet picture contest is a fun activity with some big prizes, Nugent said.
Contestants can send in their pet's picture and a donation of at least $5 for entry in the pet picture contest. To pre-enter, contestants can send a photo of a pet and the donation to Hoss at WKKY, 95 W. Main St., Geneva 44041. Deadline for pre-entry is Thursday. Contestants can also bring donations and photos to the event, but must be registered by 1 p.m. Prizes include two $50 gift certificates to J.B. Robinson Jewelers.
