It was a good Fourth

The Strip was packed the Fourth of July as tourists, residents and others came to the village to see the annual fireworks display.

Fireworks were shot off from Geneva-on-the-Lake Municipal Golf Course shortly after 10 p.m. Those at the golf course had a front row seat, while those on the Strip also could see the sky light up in different colors.

"A lot of people came," said Marge Milliken, tourism specialist for the Geneva-on-the-Lake Visitors Bureau. "I think more people were here than last year. Everyone enjoyed the display."

Area businesses also did well for the holiday weekend, Milliken said.

Geneva-on-the-Lake Police Chief Tim Bruckman said there were no incidents related to the fireworks display. As for clearing out the traffic after the display, it took about an hour. Traffic kept moving, he said.

About 26 officers and auxiliary officers handled the additional traffic for the fireworks.
