CONNEAUT -- A Conneaut ambulance involved in a two-vehicle traffic accident Tuesday, while involved in an emergency call, sustained little damage and is back in service, Vincent Gildone, Fire Station 3 battalion chief, said Wednesday.

No one on board the ambulance was injured, and the other motorist apparently did not suffer serious injuries, Gildone said.

The ambulance was transporting an 8-year-old boy who accidentally impaled himself with a pencil at Lakeshore Primary School to UHHS-Brown Memorial Hospital. A school administrator was aboard the ambulance, according to reports.

The accident occurred around 2 p.m. on Main Street, near Center Street, Gildone said. The ambulance was attempting to pass a car when the vehicles collided, he said.

The driver of the ambulance was identified as Jamie Coy, Gildone said. The other driver, Sherri Anderson, 17, of 96 T St., Conneaut, was taken to BMH by a relative, he said.

The 10-year-old ambulance sustained some minor visible damage, Gildone said. "It's easily repairable," he said.

The other vehicle had to be towed from the scene, Gildone said.

Sources said the ambulance continued on to the hospital with the patient

Medical personnel were transporting the second-grade student, who reportedly had fallen and landed on a sharpened pencil, which entered his lower back, according to reports. The boy's condition was not known immediately, but the injury was not believed to be serious.

Police still are investigating the accident, officers said.
