ASHTABULA —
The city is planning a Tire Amnesty Day to help residents dispose of scrap tires.
The Tire Amnesty Grant Program, administered by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Division of Recycling and Litter Prevention, helps Ohio’s local government develop programs to promote sustainable scrap tire collection drives, sponsor tire drop-off efforts and engage in targeted clean up events.
Mary Church, project administrator in the newly formed Department of Planning and Community Development, wrote the grant and got the funding for the city’s Sanitation Department. The city received $10,000 to help in the removal of scrap tires.
City residents will be able to bring up to 10 passenger tires to the city’s transfer station and dispose of them for free from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 3. The transfer station is at 501 W. 24th St.
Participants must prove they live in the city with identification or a utility bill bearing their city address. Additional tires can be disposed of at a cost of $3 per tire without a rim and $5 per tire with a rim.
