CONNEAUT — Not everyone dreads driving in the snow and ice that has coated the Conneaut area since the start of the year.
Owners of snowmobiles and all-terrain vehicles are in their glory, anxious to explore our Great White North Shore. But before beginning your adventure, be aware that the city has rules for the access roads that can be legally used to reach trails.
While off-road vehicles are generally banned from city streets, local law does allow machines to travel stretches of designed roads solely to reach established trails. Vehicles cannot travel more than 15 mph on the access roads, and must stay off sidewalks unless plowing snow or performing maintenance.
The list of acceptable access roads includes:
n Creek Road (between Keefus Road and Conneaut Creek)
n Keefus Road
n Underridge Road (between South Ridge and Keefus roads)
n South Parrish Road at the Interstate 90 overpass
n Dorman Road
n Old Main Road
n Clinton Avenue (between Parker Street and Whitney Road)
n Woodworth Road
n Middle Road (from I-90 south 700 yards)
n Hawthorne Drive (between Cedar Road and Oakland Boulevard)
n Oakland Boulevard (north of Hawthorne Drive)
n Underridge Road (between Kingsville and the Pennsylvania line)
n Creek Road (east of South Amboy Road to Conneaut Creek)
n South Parrish Road (between Daniels Avenue and the city limits)
n Creek Road (between South Amboy Road and Farnham Park)
n Clinton Avenue (between Parker and Lake Erie streets)
Violators will be found guilty of a fourth-degree misdemeanor. If a repeat offense occurs within one year, the charge will be kicked up to a first-degree misdemeanor, which carries a maximum penalty of six months in jail and a $1,000 fine.
