The Jefferson Community Recreation Center is gearing up for its annual Spring Craft Show.
This year’s event will be held March 23 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. This is the seventh year for the event that will feature about 85 local vendors selling a variety of items.
“There will be all kinds of Easter goodies,” said Randy Douglas, coordinator.
Douglas said some of the items featured at this year’s show include jewelry, candy, fudge, candles, wood crafts, knitted and crocheted items as well as direct sales items such as Scentsy, Avon and Thirty One.
“We fill just about every room in the facility,” Douglas said.
The Jefferson Senior Center will also have a table set up with various items the seniors have made. Some of the things available will be ceramics and baskets among others. The Senior Center is also the sponsor of the craft show. Senior Coordinator Toni Tulajew will be cooking hot dogs and sloppy joes all day and will be selling them along with chips, coffee and pop to raise money for the center.
“This should be a fun event,” she said.
Douglas said when the event was started seven years ago, it was coordinated by Peggy Otto. When she retired about two years ago, she turned everything over to Douglas, who has been coordinating it ever since.
Douglas said he has a lot of people helping him make the event such a success.
“It’s not just me,” he said. “There are a whole lot of people that make this happen. Setting up and tearing down is a lot of work.”
In addition to the vendors at the show, the community center will be holding a crafter’s raffle. Each vendor from the show is required to donate an item they sell for the raffle. Tickets will be sold and those items will be raffled off as a fundraiser for the community center. There will also be a 50/50 raffle at the craft show.
The spring craft show is the first of two craft shows the community hosts every year. The Christmas Craft Show is held the first Saturday in December and is even bigger than the spring show, he said.
The Jefferson Community Recreation Center has a lot to offer the community and not just to Jefferson residents. Douglas said the community center is open to the public. A membership is not required to participate in the many activities and classes offered at the center.
“The only thing you need a membership for is if you want to use the weight room,” he said.
Memberships are available for non-residents who wish to utilize the weight room.
A few of the classes offered at the center included karate, pilates with stability ball, yoga, body blast and zumba.
Anyone interested in trying out pilates, yoga and zumba can do so free of charge. The first class for each of those activities is free, Douglas said. For more information on the classes, contact the community center.
