JEFFERSON —
One of the last houses slated for demolition in Conneaut under the Neighborhood Stabilization Program will come down in the next 45 days.
Commissioners on Tuesday approved the contract with Demshar Environmental, Forman Road, Jefferson, for the demolition of the Main Street (Route 20) house. The cost is not to exceed $15,990 and the work must be completed by Nov. 30.
Dawn Gates of the county’s department of planning and community services, told commissioners in a work session that the west-side eyesore is probably the last one in Conneaut that will come down under the NSP, which the county was awarded in 2008.
“It is one of the last houses in Conneaut, but it’s not the last of the houses (for the whole county),” Gates said.
She said there are probably five or six houses that could come down with NSP funding by Jan. 31, 2013, the deadline for using the grant funds.
In other action on Tuesday, the board voted to renew the county’s participation agreement with the County Employee Benefit Consortium (CEBCO). The consortium, which pools the employees of participating counties into one group, will provide the health insurance benefits for county workers through Dec. 31, 2015.
