ASHTABULA TOWNSHIP —
An Ashtabula man was taken to a Mayfield Heights hospital being ejected from his car Thursday night on Plymouth Ridge Road, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Derek Messenger, 19, was driving west on Plymouth Ridge Road at about 7:40 p.m. when he drove off the right side of the road and struck an embankment, according to OHP reports.
The vehicle hit several small trees, rolled over and came to rest in the middle of the road, which descends into the Ashtabula Gulf, according to the OHP.
Messenger, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was “totally ejected” from the vehicle, the report said.
Debris and contents of the vehicle were scattered all over the scene.
Ashtabula Township Fire Department transported Messenger to Ashtabula County Medical Center. He was later taken to Hillcrest Hospital for his injuries, reports show.
OHP Sgt. Keith Palmer did not have an update on Messenger’s condition Friday.
Charges are pending, he said.
