DENMARK TOWNSHIP —
A three-vehicle crash on Route 167 about one mile east of Route 193 claimed the life of a Jefferson man.
Frederick Siders, 45, died as a result of injuries sustained in the crash, said Ashtabula County Coroner Dr. Pamela Lancaster. Siders was the lone occupant of a Chevrolet S-10 pickup that ended up underneath another pickup truck.
As of 9 p.m. Saturday, troopers from the Saybrook Post were still conducting their investigation at the scene. Lancaster said shortly before midnight that the victim was removed from the mangled vehicle, identified and his family notified. The coroner said Siders was married.
Lt. Jerad Sutton of the Saybrook Post of the OHP could provide few details about the crash. The post received a call to the scene at 6:42 p.m.
Rescue personnel at the scene said three persons from a pickup truck that ended up in a field were transported to the hospital, as was an individual from the pickup truck that came to rest on top of the third vehicle.
“All are fine, that’s all we know,” Lancaster said of the motorists and passengers who were transported. No ages, sexes or names were available.
The accident closed the highway as troopers took measurements and collected evidence from the scene. No further information was available from OHP later in the evening.
