CONNEAUT —
Police in Conneaut are still on the prowl for a man who robbed the city’s Huntington Bank late Thursday morning, Police Chief Charles Burlingham said Friday.
A photo of the suspect, taken by a bank surveillance camera and published in Friday’s Star Beacon, generated some calls from the public, Burlingham said. Unfortuna-tely, none of the leads panned out, he said.
“We got a few tips, but none of them match the guy we’re looking for,” Burlingham said.
Conneaut police are also conferring with the FBI, he said.
The man walked into the bank shortly after 11 a.m. Thursday, told the teller he wanted to make a withdrawal and then presented a note demanding money, police said. No weapon was displayed and no one in the bank was hurt, officers said.
Police are still seeking help from the public. The suspect is white, stands between five-foot 10-inches and six feet tall, had a scruffy beard and “very obvious” blue eyes,” officers said. He wore eyeglasses; a black, medium-length leather jacket; green polo shirt; black jeans and a black Pittsburgh Pirates baseball cap with a yellow “P” embroidered on the front.
People with information are asked to contact the police department (440-593-7440) or the department’s confidential tip line (440-593-7423).
The Conneaut robbery was part of a wave of identical crimes to hit the region the past few days. On Friday morning, a bank robbery was reportedly robbed in Millcreek Township, Pa. In addition to the Conneaut robbery, Thursday saw two robberies in Erie, Pa., according to erietvnews.com. Two banks in Chautauqua County, N.Y., located less than two hours from Conneaut, were robbed on Monday, the website reported.
