GENEVA-ON-THE-LAKE —
A South Euclid man found stumbling in the roadway outside of a Geneva-on-the-Lake bar was charged with drug trafficking and other drug related charges Monday after officers found 110 grams of marijuana on him.
DeAngelo Foy, 25, was “falling and stumbling” into traffic on Lake Road on Thursday night, Police Chief Tim Bruckman said, and became belligerent with officers when they tried to help him.
The officers found 44 bags of marijuana, 110 grams total, and a digital scale on Foy, who then admitted that he was selling the drugs to make ends meet, Bruckman said.
“He said he had to do what he had to do to survive,” Bruckman said. “And it is clear to us, with the way the marijuana was packaged individually and with the scale he was carrying, that (Foy’s) intent was to sell.”
Foy, who spent the weekend at the Ashtabula County Jail, is charged with two counts of disorderly conduct, being intoxicated in a roadway, drug abuse, possession of drug paraphernalia, obstruction of official business and trafficking drugs, Western County Court records show.
The trafficking charge is a fifth degree felony. Foy, who pleaded not guilty to all charges, will face a pretrial hearing on Feb. 11, court records show.
Bruckman said while Foy’s inventory isn’t the biggest drug bust for the village police department, it is significant.
“I’d say this is a bigger than average amount of drugs for one person,” Bruckman said. “I mean, (Foy) was obviously selling, dealing, so we are glad to have these drugs off the street before he could sell it.”
Bruckman said the village’s Thursday night bar scene brings out-of-towners, but also brings people looking to expand their drug clientele.
