JEFFERSON — Commissioners on Thursday approved a contract with Northcoast Construction to demolish a Williamsfield Township structure.
Funding for the demolition comes from the Neighborhood Stabilization Program, the county’s allocation of which must be exhausted by the end of next month. The Williamsfield property, on Stanhope-Kelloggsville Road, will cost $14,821 to bring down and haul away. The work must be completed by Feb. 28.
In a work session prior to the meeting, Janice Switzer of the county’s department of planning and community services, told commissioners that another resolution for demolition will come before the board next week. That resolution will be for a Bank Street, Conneaut, property that Habitat for Humanity plans to build upon once the burned-out house is removed.
In other action the board approved an extension of its contract with MV Transportation, which operates the Ashtabula County Transportation System. The extension is through March 31 at a rate of $62.95 per service hour, not to exceed $267,600.45.
A decrease in local match funding for the system is necessitating a reduction in service later this year. Until the area of cuts is determined, the board is issuing short-term extensions to the existing contract, which is for five years.
Commissioners have scheduled for Feb. 4 a public hearing on the proposed reduction in service. The meeting starts at 10:30 a.m. in the council chambers, Ashtabula City Hall. The board has suggested eliminating all Saturday scheduled route service to close the $150,000 funding gap.
• In other action, the board sent several pieces of office equipment from the county’s law library to the county’s online auction site. Also headed to the block is a 2001 Audi Quattro A6, from the Sheriff Department. Starting bid on the vehicle is $500.
• Commissioners approved the purchase of a 2009 Ford F150 pickup from Greg Sweet Ford, North Kingsville, for $14,933.50. The vehicle will be used in the sheriff’s department. The Ashtabula County Law Enforcement Trust Fund will be tapped for the expenditure.
• The board set the mileage reimbursement rate at 45 cents per mile for employees who use their private vehicles for official county business. The rate will be in effect throughout 2013 unless otherwise adjusted by the board.
• The board accepted the first amendment to the county’s 2013 Official Certificate of Estimated Resources. The new estimate of general fund revenues grew by more than $800,000 to $19,612,982.
• The board approved a sewer and water builders license for United Excavating & Oil Well Service of Jefferson.
