JEFFERSON —
An Ashtabula man sought by law enforcement for his alleged involvement in a heroin ring surrendered to Ashtabula County sheriff’s deputies Tuesday morning, according to a spokeswoman at the FBI office in Cleveland.
Jamarce “Jamie” Miller, 36, turned himself in around 10 a.m. at the sheriff’s department in Jefferson, said Sheriff William Johnson. He was immediately delivered to U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration agents and reportedly made his initial appearance in federal court later in the day, officials said.
Miller was the last of 13 people to be arrested on a 42-count indictment issued by a federal grand jury related to their alleged involvement in a heroin trafficking ring that operated in northeast Ohio for several months last year. Everyone but Miller was arrested early Monday morning, and nearly all of the defendants live in Ashtabula County, officials have said.
Prosecutors allege an Ashtabula man, identified as Rayshawn Reed, arranged deliveries of heroin to northeast Ohio between March and mid-August. Reed, in turn, sold the drug to others in a distribution system that involved the other defendants, officials said. Drugs involved in the conspiracy led to the death of a 27-year-old Ashtabula woman in July, officials said.
Seized as part of the investigation was some $320,000 in cash, firearms and five vehicles, officials said. Law enforcement agencies at every government level teamed on the investigation, officials said at a Monday afternoon press conference.
