Sheriff’s detectives discover meth labs in Conneaut basement

CONNEAUT — A follow-up investigation with caseworkers from the Ashtabula County Children Services Board led Ashtabula County Sheriff’s detectives to three one-pot meth labs on Thursday.

The discovery was made in the basement of 690 Maple Ave., Conneaut. Three one-pot meth labs plus other material used in the manufacture of the illegal substance were discovered. Detectives, assisted by the Conneaut Police and Fire departments, remediated the labs at the residence.

Lt. Terry A. Moisio of the sheriff’s department said a 38-year-old male was arrested at the Maple Avenue location for manufacturing methamphetamine. He is incarcerated in the county jail and to be arraigned in Conneaut Municipal Court on Monday.

Moisio said the department was originally asked to assist CSB with an investigation. The detectives simultaneously descended upon a West Main Road address and 690 Maple Ave. He said the investigation is ongoing at the West Main Road address, where drug paraphernalia was found.

Additional charges in conjunction with the children may be brought against the suspect, Moisio said.

Three children who were at the Maple Avenue residence were removed by CSB caseworkers.
