CONNEAUT — The steady rock music sound of The Relays had people swaying to the beat as boats drove by Conneaut Public Dock Saturday afternoon during the Dockfest.
The event, which was postponed early this Summer due to threats of bad weather, was a huge success, organizers said while enjoying a breeze off the lake.
Tents were set up along the public dock where vendors sold food and the bands were set up right along the water.
“We had a really good turnout,” said Joe Raisian who organized the event.
The event started off with a canoe race and a wacky boat race, Raisian said. “Nobody drowned that was a good thing,” he said with a laugh.
Raisian said an American Legion entry won the canoe race besting five other boats and Mark Sedmak was victorious over five other boats in the Wacky Boat Race.
He said the change of time for the event didn’t seem to hurt the attendance. “The only negative was the classic boats weren’t available,” Raisian said.
Conneaut Councilman Chris Castrilla said the event is great for the city. “I think it’s wonderful. It’s great to see the Port Authority promoting the lake. I’m very, very proud of them,” he said.
Darlyene Brisley, Dockfest committee member in charge of the car show, was excited about the 76 classic vehicles that showed up for the event.
“I’m really, happy with the turnout,” she said.
