PIERPONT TOWNSHIP — The former Pierpont Elementary School, and the land on which it sits, is scheduled for public auction Nov. 6 at the Buckeye Local Board of Education offices, said Buckeye Local Schools Superintendent Nancy Williams.
Williams said the school board approved a resolution Thursday evening, opening the door for the sale. She said she has received calls from several people interested in the property but has told prospects she would let them know when the sale would occur.
A second piece of property, adjacent to the school, may be sold to the Pierpont Township trustees.
“We’ve been talking, and we are pretty close to coming to a purchase agreement,” Williams said of negotiations with the trustees.
Williams said the trustees are interested in using the property for storing township equipment.
In other business, the board of education honored the Edgewood Alumni Hall of Fame Class of 2009 through a resolution of commendation. The graduates will be honored Oct. 15 and will attend the football game on Oct. 16, Williams said. They include Richard C. Schwarz, class of 1955; Barry A. Walrath, class of 1959; Kenneth L. Piper, class of 1966; David L. Piper, class of 1967; Kathleen I. McMurray-Straub, class of 1969; Mark A Piper, class of 1970; and Dennis A Viers, class of 1972.
The school board also approved an agreement to pool resources with other school-related organizations to get lower electricity rates, Williams said.
