AUSTINBURG TOWNSHIP — On a cool morning earlier this week, a stray, gray kitten curled up to sleep under the hood of a car.
When the unsuspecting driver started the engine, the cat’s leg got caught. The kitten’s head also took a beating.
A good Samaritan found the gray kitten and rushed it to Austinburg Veterinary Clinic, hoping veterinarian Becky Salinger would put the animal out of its misery. Instead, she thought maybe she could save it.
The gray kitten, a female, remains in the intensive care unit of the veterinary clinic, her leg bandaged and her head stitched.
Salinger is looking for a good home for the gray kitten when she recovers from her traumatic injuries. She also urges drivers to be extra vigilant and check under their car hood before starting the engine to make sure no cats have found their way in there on cold mornings.
