NORTH KINGSVILLE — Village council will convene a special meeting next week to consider a change in local law that would keep barns and other animal shelters away from neighbors’ buildings.
The special session will be held 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the municipal building on Route 20.
At issue is a request to rewrite a village code that requires buildings that contain animals to be kept at least 400 feet from a neighbor’s home. An East Center Street woman who keeps horses on her property, is seeking the change, officials said.
The matter involves a revision to North Kingsville’s codified ordinances and would affect the entire village, officials learned this month. It is not a zoning issue, said Village Solicitor Daniel Madden.
Council tried to conduct business Wednesday night but was thwarted by a lack of members. Three of the six councilmen — Lawrence Eller, Dennis Kortyka and Michael Lynch — had excused absences.
