Today’s date provides an alignment of numbers that won’t reappear for centuries, but not too many Ashtabula County couples plan to celebrate the occasion by tying the knot, officials said.
As of Tuesday afternoon, only two civil wedding ceremonies were scheduled in Ashtabula County on 12-12-12, and both will happen in Conneaut Municipal Court, employees said. None were set in Ashtabula Municipal Court, and Judge Robert Wynn doesn’t preside over Eastern County Court on Wednesdays. Eastern County Court fielded only one inquiry about a wedding, workers said.
Western County Court Judge Richard Stevens doesn’t conduct wedding ceremonies, employees said.
There’s been no big uptick in marriage license applications which would indicate an interest in the date, said a spokeswoman at Ashtabula County Probate Court, which issues the documents. People who secured licenses didn’t say they were motivated by the Dec. 12, 2012, the spokeswoman said.
The court issues an average of 650 licenses a year, according to its website. License-holders have 60 days to get married once the license is issued.
A survey conducted by David’s Bridal indicated 7,500 brides planned to get married today, a 1,446 percent increase over marriages that occurred on the same date last year, according to a news release.
