A Denmark Township man faces possible felony charges after he reportedly punched his 6-year-old in the head late Friday night, sheriff reports show.
Deputies said they would pursue felony-level charges of domestic violence and child endangering against the 34-year-old man.
The incident began around 10:30 p.m., when deputies were contacted about a man walking up and down his road, yelling at neighbors. Deputies and Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers arrived at the scene. The suspect, standing nearby with a beer bottle, admitted yelling at neighbors “because they are always in my business,” he said.
Moments later, a woman emerged from the house and told deputies the man recently struck the boy. The child was holding an ice pack to a part of his head that was red and swollen. A report did not indicate if the child required medical attention.
The woman told deputies the boy had told his father, whom she said was recently released from jail for making methamphetamines, that a family friend shared mom’s bed while he was incarcerated, according to a report.
Asked about the incident, the suspect didn’t deny a thing, telling deputies he was “only trying to make a man out of the boy” and that’s how he normally plays with the child. The man has had previous arrests for domestic violence, deputies said.
