GENEVA —
Two teenagers are in the Geneva City Jail after an alleged armed robbery on West Main Street on Monday morning, Geneva Police Chief Dan Dudik said.
The incident happened outside of Villas of Geneva apartments, 961 E. Main St., at 10 a.m. when the victim, who had picked up two men “hitching a ride on Ninevah Road,” said his passengers suddenly flashed a gun and demanded money.
Dudik said officers are investigating the incident and the two young men — ages 16 and 18 — are in custody.
“The men were not strangers, not really acquaintances,” Dudik said, “but (the victim) was familiar with at least one of the suspects.”
Dudik said the victim gave the suspects, described in the city dispatch report as two black men, one wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and the other a black rabbit fur coat, a ride from Ashtabula to Geneva.
“At the destination, there was a demanding of money and we do have claims of a gun being used,” Dudik said.
Officers searched the city for the suspects, calling in Geneva-on-the-Lake Police Chief Tim Bruckman and his canine partner for assistance, dispatch records show.
