ASHTABULA — Area residents had the opportunity to see the recently refurbished gymnasium during tours of the Ashtabula YMCA held Sunday.
“This is a welcome to fall and (a chance) to show the gymnasium,” said Cheryl Johnson, YMCA membership coordinator and office manager. She said a new floor was installed in the gymnasium as well as a new curtain and new pads.
“We’re just trying to upgrade the whole building,” Johnson said.
Patrick Bedysz, executive director of the YMCA, said another addition to the property will be a weight lifting area to be used only by women.
“We’re going to start off with the basics. It’s a place for them to go where they are comfortable (to workout),” he said.
Visitors toured several weightrooms, a spin cycle room, the treadmill area as well as the gymnasium. Johnson also told people about the YMCA’s class schedule and youth leagues.
“We do a little bit of everything here,” Johnson said.
Bedsyz said the YMCA is sponsoring a corn hole tournament Saturday at the Ashtabula Elks Club at 3115 Lake Road with the proceeds going to help the organization’s youth program.
