ASHTABULA — Voters in Ward 4 will see a familiar name on the November ballot.
The city’s Democratic Precinct Committee unanimously named planning commission member James Giannell on Monday night to run against Ward 4 Councilwoman Julie Lattimer in the Nov. 3 election.
Giannell replaces Jessie Smith, who resigned after the May primary.
“She thought it was too much,” said Duane Feher, chairman of the Ashtabula County Democratic Party.
Giannell said he moved to East 44th Street more than 50 years ago and has been involved in many facets of the community.
“My goal is to represent our ward first and deal with city issues as they affect our area next,” Giannell said. “I want to return a spirit of cooperation to council, but most importantly, a common sense approach to our ward and city issues.”
Giannell also served on the city’s Architectural and Restoration Review Board. Most recently, he believed in the historical significance of old Harbor High School and fought to keep it from being demolished.
