ASHTABULA — A 12-year-old boy suffered trauma to his legs Saturday night when he was hit by a vehicle and pinned against the wall of a Mexican restaurant, Ashtabula Fire Department reports show.
A car struck the Taqueria La Roca restaurant on West 19th Street in Moore’s Plaza at 8:30 p.m., shattering the floor-to-ceiling glass windows at the eatery and injuring the boy, Ashtabula Fire Department Lt. Todd Wilms said.
The boy, who was not identified by fire fighters, was given “advanced life support care” including intravenous fluids, at the scene of the accident, was placed in a traction splint and transported to the Ashtabula County Medical Center, Wilms said.
While a medical helicopter was on standby for the child, Wilms said it is unclear if the boy was transferred to another hospital.
“The report indicates (the boy’s) injuries were not life-threatening,” Wilms said. “It was mostly lower-leg trauma. It looks like he was pinched between the car and the building.”
The accident is under investigation by the Ashtabula Police Department, though no information was available on the accident Sunday night.
The telephone number for Taqueria La Roca restaurant was disconnected Sunday night, though the menu indicates the restaurant would have been closed at the time of the accident.
