CONNEAUT —
DockFest, a day of music, food and vintage vehicles a few steps from Lake Erie, returns to the city’s public dock on Saturday, organizers said.
The event officially begins at noon, but the action starts hours earlier with the third annual Conneaut Windmill Run. The event features three different options to get the blood pumping: a 5K run/walk, a 1.5-mile walk or a Kid Fun Run (ages 10 years and under). Proceeds benefit the Conneaut Human Resources Center, Conneaut Community Center for the Arts and the Conneaut Music Boosters.
DockFest will feature entertainment from two bands: The Relay (1-4 p.m.) and Tombstone (4-7 p.m.) Classic vehicles will also be on display and a handful of vendors will sell food and beverages.
Windmill Run uses the nearby CCCA for its starting line. Registration begins at 7 a.m. for the Run and Walk. Runners will step off at 8 a.m., followed a few moments later by the walkers. The Kids Fun Run begins at 7:45 a.m.
Runners and walkers will follow a course through scenic Township Park and adjacent neighborhoods, while the Fun Run will traverse nearby Lakeview Park.
The 5K run is part of the North Coast Road Racing Grand Prix. Awards will be given men and women in several age groups.
Pre-registration cost is $15 (run), $10 (walk), $5 (fun run). The cost on the day of the event is $20 (run), $15 (walk), $10 (fun run). Groups of 10 or more enjoy a discount: $13 (run) and $7 (walk). Groups must pre-register.
A race shirt will be given the first 100 people to pre-register. Sign-up forms are available at the CHRC, 327 Mill St.
The event gets its name from the big lakefront wind turbine, which will mark the finish line for runners and walkers, adjacent to the city’s wastewater treatment plant,
The festival began several years ago under the name Antique Boat and Car Show. It was renamed DockFest in 2009.
