ASHTABULA —
Police say a 40-year-old Youngstown man is in jail today after restraining and raping a woman in a west side home Tuesday.
Andre Campbell, 1313 Humbolt Ave., is charged with rape and kidnapping, both first-degree felonies, Ashtabula police detective Lt. Joseph Cellitti said.
The victim, a 31-year-old Geneva woman, reported the incident at 7:54 p.m. Tuesday at the Justice Center on West 44th Street after she managed to “get out of the house,” Cellitti said.
Once the woman reported the crime to police, she was taken to Ashtabula County Medical Center and two detectives were called in to investigate the incident.
They then executed a search warrant and went to the house on West 33rd Street to search for physical evidence, Cellitti said.
Late Tuesday night, officers combed the west side residence, and later, arrested Campbell and transported him to the city jail, Cellitti said.
Police would not give any more details on the case because it is an open investigation.
At his arraignment Wednesday afternoon in Municipal Court, Campbell’s bond was set at $100,000 cash or surety, officials said.
According to Ashtabula County Common Pleas Court records, he has a past conviction of domestic violence from 2006.
