Buckeye board gets solid support for bus floor

ASHTABULA TOWNSHIP —  Tri Mor Corp. will provide the concrete for a new parking area at the Buckeye Local bus garage on Blake Road.

Board of Education Tuesday accepted Tri Mor’s bid of $76,388.75. Six bids were received.

Also approved was a one-year agreement with the Ashtabula Sanitation Department to provide the district with refuse and garbage pickup at all buildings. The board also approved a contract with the Speech, Hearing and Rehabilitation Center to provide speech therapy, audiology and preschool educational services for the next school year. The Adult Basic Literacy Program was awarded a contract to provide services to those students who are identified as limited English proficient.

In personnel action, the board accepted the retirement of Cyndee Hawn, cafeteria manager at Kingsville Elementary, effective Aug. 1. Hawn served the district 25 years.

Charles Jones was appointed custodian at Braden Junior High, effective July 2 and contingent upon satisfactory completion of a probationary period.

Five bus drivers were hired for the summer school program, July 9 to Aug. 2: Rhonda Camp, Pam Hamilton, Sara Meredith, Tim Root and Jan VanBuren.

Under assignment changes, the board moved Terri Calogero, secretary at Ridgeview and Braden, to a 7.5 hours per day position at Braden only. Sandra Bojanowski, a part-time secretary at Kingsville, will become a 6.5-hours-per-day secretary with her time split between Ridgeview and Braden.

The board accepted $300 in donations to the Wallace H. Braden Junior High Scholarship from the Parent Teacher Organizations of Braden, Kingsville and Ridgeview. The Braden PTO also made a $250 donation to the Braden Student Council in memory of Dylan Christian, a Braden student who died earlier this year.

The board also acknowledged the donation of a Revere flute from Shelia and Jeff Caruso.

The board went into executive session following the meeting to discuss the transition of leadership with Superintendent Nancy Williams and Joseph Spiccia, who was hired Tuesday night to take over Williams’ job Sept. 1.
