JEFFERSON — Commissioners on Thursday approved a contract with Schwartz Construction of Conneaut for a storm water improvement project in Geneva-on-the-Lake.
Cost of the project is pegged at $18,870, with $17,500 coming from Community Development Block Grant money. The village is contributing $1,370.
The work must be completed by Dec. 31.
In other action on Thursday, the board:
• Approved filing a grant application with the Ohio Office of Criminal Justice Services for residential substance abuse treatment. The $30,000 grant would require an in-kind match of 25 percent.
The program would provide treatment for medium- and high-risk inmates in the Ashtabula County Jail. It will fund the cost of a substance abuse counselor from a local treatment agency to conduct assessments, develop individual treatment and re-entry plans, and deliver treatment services. Cognitive behavioral therapy in conjunction with the “thinking for a change” curriculum delivered by the Northeast Ohio Community Alternative Program would be used as the in-kind service.
• Accepted transportation grant funding from the District IX Area on Aging. The total grant, including local cash of $6,811 and program income of $300, is for $47,407. The money is used to provide transit fare assistance to the county’s elderly during 2013.
• Sent three county vehicles to the county’s online auction site. All three vehicles are in poor condition and have more than 150,000 miles each.
