JEFFERSON —
Ashtabula County Recorder Judith Barta presented commissioners with her letter of retirement during a work session Thursday.
Barta is retiring effective Aug. 31, 2012.
Barta, who announced last year that she would not seek re-election in 2012, told commissioners that personal reasons “necessitate an accelerated timeline.” Her current term ends Jan. 6, 2013.
Democratic Party Chairman Duane Feher was notified of her decision last week. Commissioners will appoint an acting recorder for the interim between Aug. 31 and when the party makes its interim appointment, Feher said.
