Bank robbed at gunpoint

AUSTINBURG TOWNSHIP — Ashtabula County Sheriff’s deputies are looking for two white men that robbed the Conneaut Savings and Loan at gun point around 5:30 p.m. Friday, said Ashtabula County Sheriff William Johnson.

Upon arrival deputies learned the two men, one wearing “outdoor clothes” and the other all black, had entered the building and asked for money.

“They did have masks on and were wearing gloves,” Johnson said. He said they also brandished pistols during the holdup.

The pair fled with an undetermined amount of cash. “We believe they fled on foot,” he said.

Johnson said a K9 unit was on the scene and proceeded to follow the scent. He said the track ended at Ashtabula Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, about 200 meters away, where deputies believe the robbers parked their car or someone picked them up.

“The call came in at 5:32 p.m. We were on the scene at 5:38 p.m.,” Johnson said.

Johnson said nobody was hurt during the robbery.

“We put out a teletype for all agencies as far as what we know,” Johnson said.

“We are interviewing people that might have seen something and the investigation is continuing,” Johnson said.
